SoulCollage Workshop

5.22.2011

For those of you who don't know, I plan on becoming a registered art therapist some day.

During fall and winter quarter, I used to intern at the UC Davis Medical Center as a Child Life volunteer. For the second quarter, I was able to work beside the art therapist, Hannah. After I finished my internship, I still kept in touch with her and she recently gave me the opportunity to do a private workshop with her with my friend (who is also interested in art therapy) and to help volunteer a booth with her. The private "workshop" was to get us prepared for the SoulCollage booth at the Cancer Survivors' Picnic in Sacramento on June 4th.

I have never done SoulCollage before so it was a new and interesting experience for me.

It's a form of art therapy but also seen as a form of spiritual healing. From my experience, I found it very therapeutic, calming, and fun. You also get to find more about yourself through the process and while viewing other people's cards. I like to think of it as a very friendly free-form "outlet." It was also the first time I ever made a collage... hahaha.

I'm very excited to volunteer at the booth! I'll make another post about it afterwards!

Here's a photo of the two SoulCollage cards I made.
My "Source" & "Community" cards

Source Card - "...representations of individual realities represents the many..."
Community Card - "This is the part of the deck for people you know- friends and family. You may also make cards for people you want in your life- people you admire and whose energy you wish to have present."

I don't think SoulCollage is for everyone, but it's another great way to find yourself artistically.
